Bachelors degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment. Certification alternative certification or licensure: current valid South Dakota teaching certificate.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Successful Student Teaching

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Hand-eye mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking standing walking and writing. Frequent carrying keyboarding and other repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.

CERTIFICATION

This position requires a valid South Dakota teaching certification with either the K-12 Instrumental Music Education or Secondary Music Educationendorsement.

Interested in becoming a contract teacher but dont hold a traditional teaching degree

The South Dakota Department of Education offers an Alternative Certification program! Individuals will take 15-credits plus praxis exams while they perform their duties as a contract teacher for a South Dakota school district. Alternative Certification is available for most positions 5th grade through high school. Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelors degree unless pursuing a CTE Instructor position.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING

South Dakota Codified Lawrequires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. You will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

Visit to view the list of approved trainings and detailed instructions for completion. These trainings listed are the only accepted trainings per SDCL. Please carefully review the options before selecting a training as unapproved trainings will require you to retake an approved course.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

Assistant Band Director

  1. Assists in the preparation of two major concerts per band each year two marching band competitions/parades/festivals and the region contests.

  2. Assists in the preparation of students for participation in homecoming and Booster Club activities.

  3. Assists in the maintenance of the building band music library and contributes to the maintenance of the district library.

  4. Assists in the preparation of students for auditions rehearsals and performances of All State Band and All State Jazz Band.

  5. Rehearses band sectionals and group instruction.

  6. Assists with the Pep Band performances at 10 athletic events per year.

  7. Assists in preparing the marching band for performances at all home football games.

  8. Assists in the organization of marching band camp and the marching season.

  9. Assists in the maintenance of a current band instrument and uniform inventory.

  10. Assists in the organization of fund raising and travel activities.

  11. Coordinates and prepares the winds for orchestra rehearsals and performances.

  12. Assists in the collection and processing of data for the awards program.

  13. Meets with the Fine Arts Coordinator on curriculum calendar travel equipment maintenance schedules music library and district budget needs.

  14. Coordinates rehearsal/performance room usage with the other music directors and the Fine Arts Department Chair.

  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
