JOB SUMMARY
The Journey Electrician installs and maintains the electrical wiring fixtures and systems in buildings. As part of this work the Journey Electrician will research design program modify inspect repair and analyze electrical systems; develop and update reports and documentation and transport materials and equipment to and from job sites as required to complete tasks. In addition the Trades Lead Journey Electrician will support the Area Supervisor by assigning work orders reviewing and approving invoices and performing other administrative and organizational tasks.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- Must be a current SLCSD employee and hold a current trades title
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Utah State (DOPL) Journeyman Electrician license
- One (1) year of job-related experience
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with electrical systems and wiring and electrical codes
- Experience and proficiency using test meters and other diagnostic equipment
- Experience and proficiency and ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Speak read write present professionally analyze understand and interpret written and verbal communications in English
- Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Access etc.) and experience using data-based software
- Utah drivers license and evidence of insurability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Three (3) years of job-related experience
- Previous experience working for a school district or other public entity
- Spanish or other language proficiency including the ability to read write speak and understand
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install and repair electrical wiring systems and fixtures in buildings including fire alarm systems switchboards audiovisual alarms etc.
- Install conduits and pipes to house electrical wires and cables
- Install circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connect wiring to them
- Connect electrical systems to powerlines to provide electricity to buildings
- Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation
- Inspect electrical systems to determine appropriate repairs
- Replace conduit wiring and circuit breakers as needed
- Research inspect design install test and maintain equipment for all systems to ensure system equipment is working properly and equipment is serviced and updated as needed
- Analyze drawings to identify locations of new and existing electrical systems and develop plans for the installation of additional systems.
- Stock equipment and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels
- Transport various items (e.g. tools equipment supplies etc.) to job sites
- Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently
- Ensure that all work performed is in compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees colleagues and stakeholders
- Participate in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform job functions
- Work under limited supervision utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
- Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform job duties.
- Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions as required
- As needed roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 50 pounds
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES TRADES LEAD
- Review and equitably assign work orders to the appropriate trades staff in a timely manner
- Appropriately prioritize work orders to ensure continuity of district operations
- Ensure that all work orders are completed and contain appropriate documentation including an accurate accounting of materials used
- Review and approve all invoices associated with work orders and capital projects to ensure proper accountability and completion; ensure final invoices are accurate and properly reflect time rates to be paid and materials used
- When applicable coordinate with other trades to ensure smooth and efficient completion of work orders and projects
- Serve as a point of contact to communicate with building administrators custodians and others regarding the status of work orders and projects within their respective buildings
- Coordinate equipment rentals when specialized equipment is required for projects or operations
- Serve as a liaison for contractors explaining the scope and timeline for projects overseeing the contractors involvement in projects and ensuring satisfactory completion of projects
- Oversee and facilitate equipment maintenance and supply inventories to ensure continuity of operations
- For capital projects coordinate with the purchasing department to design the scope of work write bid specifications and support the bidding and award process. Upon award oversee and coordinate the project walk-through scheduling change orders satisfactory completion and closure.
- Assist the Area Supervisor during emergencies as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling and fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting 40% walking and 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury or illness.
