JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the English Learners (EL) Executive Director the EL Curriculum and Parent Engagement Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation of district models for teaching and learning of English-to-English Learners (EL) by using gold standard curriculum materials for English Learners.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Oversee implementation of the district approved curriculum and resources for English Learners.
- Oversee implementation of district models for teaching and learning of EL and continue to refine the plans as
- Implement districtwide Second Language initiatives PreK-12.
- Lead the Summer School EL Program in the planning design and monitoring of the Assist in the implementation of research based best practices for EL students districtwide.
- Ensure that all language centers are aligned with the districts instructional model (Literacy Continuum).
- Coordinate selection & purchase of appropriate instructional materials to support instruction of EL according to District standards and procedures.
- Interface with community agencies involved in the resettlement of refugees.
- Coordinate efforts with other EL and Migrant Staff in expanding opportunities for parent involvement and trainings.
- Assist and plan EL districtwide parent meetings and Family Literacy c Communicate with parents of English Learners regarding their progress in the program (including WIDA proficiency).
- Provide training for summer school staff.
- Provide support and training to PreK-12 principals and staff as needed in conjunction with Itinerant EL Content Focused Literacy Coach.
- Support all new staff in meeting the needs of EL students.
- Develop training program for paraprofessionals involved with EL students.
- Stay current as to scientifically research practices impacting the education of EL.
- Participate in district wide training.
- Lead Professional Learning Communities.
- Coach PreK-12 staff as needed on the implementation of research based best practices and strategies for EL students including SIOP.
- Develop rubric to monitor progress of EL by building principals in conjunction with Office of Assessment & Evaluation.
- Coordinate the identification assessment placement and provision of services of all PreK-12 students with a Primary or Home Language Other Than English (PHLOTE) eligible for language support.
- Assist schools in monitoring exited EL students.
- Review and analyze student data (e.g. WIDA attendance writing prompts NWEA attendance discipline) and develop appropriate action plans for students.
- Participate in Child Study Teams as needed.
- Participate in the Districts Bilingual Diagnostic team.
- Create and chair an EL Proficiency Team to support decision-making and program improvement to include administrators parents community members and staff PreK-12.
- Participate in internal and external data reviews.
- Participate in Instructional Council.
- Collect and share data on the progress of EL students.
- Be able to use technology to support training and classroom instruction.
- Coordinate efforts with Human Resources in the identification recruitment and selection of bilingual/ESL staff.
- Participate in the Districts PreK-12 Principal meetings.
- Other duties as assigned and as allowed by grant funding and by the Executive Director of PK-12 Instructional Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in education and Teacher certification with an ESL endorsement may also have Masters in TESOL.
- Has been trained in the SIOP Instructional Model.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in administration.
