Job Description

The Researcher will support the extension of the Media Ownership Monitor (MOM) Germany project undertaking research activities to systematically document media ownership structures and create transparency in the media landscape. The project is implemented in cooperation between the Global Media Registry and MedienInsider headquartered in Berlin.

The research phase begins in early June with publication by mid-November 2025. Residence in Berlin or the surrounding area is desirable as regular in-person consultations are planned. An in-person kick-off and training is scheduled in Berlin on June 12 2025.

Tasks

  • Research ownership structures of German media companies using commercial registers and other public sources
  • Research on connections between media companies and other stakeholders
  • Analyze researched data and compile findings
  • Expand the existing database with new profile pages for regional media brands companies and key individuals
  • Support the editor in drafting findings articles and creating infographics

Requirements

  • roven journalistic research background in particular experience using publicly available resources like commercial registries or official documents
  • Excellent writing skills in German professional fluency in English
  • Ability to navigate complex information networks and identify meaningful patterns as well as to produce analytical content
  • Experience with digital tools and content management systems
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize complex information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with the German media landscape is a great asset
  • Knowledge of media pluralism issues is a plus
