Job Description

Contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
This role supports the delivery and development of youth work sessions as part of a borough-wide universal safe spaces offer for young people aged 11 19 (up to 25 for those with special educational needs or disabilities).
These safe spaces provide accessible locations where young people can engage in positive educational and developmental activities fostering wellbeing and resilience.
The role directly contributes to reducing youth violence vulnerability and exploitation by providing skilled support guidance and empowerment to young people in inclusive and engaging environments.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Build positive voluntary relationships with young people to support their personal social and emotional development.
Deliver one-to-one and group-based youth work activities that promote safety wellbeing and informed decision-making.
Empower young people to understand and manage risk make positive choices and access support where needed.
Assist in planning delivering and evaluating a varied programme of youth activities including centre-based work trips and residentials.
Signpost and refer young people to appropriate services across universal targeted and specialist support as needed.
Promote inclusion and equity through anti-discriminatory practice and ensure that all youth work is underpinned by principles of diversity rights and social justice.
Involve young people in shaping the offer through co-production ensuring their voices and experiences directly inform service delivery.
Establish clear boundaries use restorative approaches and manage behaviour effectively to ensure a safe and inclusive space.
Undertake venue duties including opening/closing buildings and health and safety tasks.
Attend regular team meetings training and supervision sessions.
Keep accurate and timely records using service systems for youth work and incident reporting.
Support quality assurance and continuous improvement activities in line with service goals.
Comply with all relevant safeguarding health and safety equality and organisational policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners modelling professional conduct respect and positive engagement.

Skills/Experience:
Proven ability to engage effectively with young people individually and in groups.
Experience delivering inclusive youth-led activities that support holistic development.
Sound understanding of safeguarding confidentiality and managing professional boundaries.
Knowledge of youth issues and the factors affecting young people locally.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust.
Experience working in partnership with services that support young people.
Demonstrated commitment to equality inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice.
Ability to manage behaviours constructively using restorative and inclusive approaches.
Competency in recording planning and evaluating youth work activities and outcomes.
Knowledge of innovative youth work approaches tailored to the needs of vulnerable groups.
Experience involving young people in service design feedback or peer leadership roles.
Experience supporting young people to access and participate in funding or accreditation opportunities

Additional Information:
Part-time role: 18 Hr/week.
Enhanced DBS is required.
