Position Overview:
Ottoson Middle School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Musical Theater Teacher to join our middle school Performing Arts Department. This position is responsible for delivering engaging theater instruction to students in grades 7 & 8. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching adolescents a strong background in theater arts and a demonstrated commitment to aligning instruction with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for the Arts Theater.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a curriculum that reflects the MA Theater Standards incorporating elements of acting voice movement stagecraft and musical interpretation.
- Create lesson plans that support the development of artistic literacy collaboration creativity and critical thinking.
- Promote an inclusive equitable and respectful learning environment for all students.
- Collaborate with school staff and families to support student engagement and performance success. Collaborate with music faculty to support interdisciplinary performing arts projects.
- Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Integrate technology and current best practices in theater education.
- Provide students with feedback that promotes growth in both technical skills and creative expression.
- Communicate regularly with parents colleagues and school leadership regarding student progress and program goals.
- Support extracurricular theater-related activities and school community events.
- Participate in departmental meetings school-wide professional development and parent-teacher conferences.
- Adhere to district policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations.
- Teach multiple grade levels (typically 68) adapting instruction to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.
- Collaborate with music and dance faculty to support interdisciplinary performing arts projects.
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking self-expression and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Integrate technology and current best practices in theater education.
- Provide students with feedback that promotes growth in both technical skills and creative expression.
- Communicate regularly with parents colleagues and school leadership regarding student progress and program goals.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance grades and performance participation.
- Support extracurricular theater-related activities and school community events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Theater Musical Theater Performing Arts Education or related field
- Valid Massachusetts Educator License in Theater (Grades 512)
- Experience working with middle school students in an educational or theatrical setting
- Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies
- Ability to manage rehearsal schedules and coordinate production elements (e.g. set design costumes lighting)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Piano or vocal coaching experience
- Technical theater skills (lighting sound set construction)
- Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply
Full time 183-day School Year Position
Salary and Benefits are consistent with theCollective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.

Arlington has a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year. The first official work day in the 2025-2026 school year will be August 27 2025. However new staff are required to attend several days of orientation and training during the last two weeks of August.
