JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Nurse Intern
DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Nursing Directors
Position Summary The nurse intern is a student nurse who assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates our hospitals core values and processes.
- Contributes to the nursing assessment and alerts RN to abnormal findings.
- Documents patient care reflecting the patient condition and the care provided.
- Integrates experience and critical thinking skills to ensure safe patient care.
- Completes tasks as assigned by RN.
- Participates in quality improvement activities by identifying implementing and monitoring process changes.
Non-essential Functions
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- Minimum of at least one year of an approved registered nurse education program with one semester of clinical course work.
- Must verify passing grade in clinical course work.
- Must have affiliated college/school complete and verify nurse intern competency checklist.
- Must have a letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
Mental / Emotional Demands
- Is able to demonstrate a beginning knowledge of nursing practice and theory.
- Must be able to apply theory to clinical setting.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrates self motivation.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
