You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailReporting to the VP of Materials and Operations Support the Health and Safety Manager is primarily responsibility for leading and managing the Health and Safety department while leading the Companys safety initiatives and safety loss control programs. Development of a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being best in class. Assures health and safety program is designed to comply with current Construction Mining Transportation and General Industry Regulations. The Health and Safety Manager also ensures the company meets the highest quality standards by supervising skilled Health and Safety Advisors who are responsible for Safety performance in all areas of construction mining manufacturing transportation and general industry.
Primary Responsibilities
Supervises all Safety Specialists Safety Admin and CVOR Compliance Team members and develop a high performance internal customer-oriented work team through hiring motivating coaching appraising and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
Assign H&S Specialists geographically to ensure efficiency in travel for facility quarry plant and jobsite inspections.
Leads development of and clearly articulates Companys safety vision objectives strategies policies and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
Lead and/or participate monitor and report on H&S strategic objectives and 90-day tactics (as requested).
Provides proactive leadership and assumes ownership of building a best-in-class safety culture by
anticipating problems & providing solutions
sharing knowledge with and providing training to all levels of management field staff and project teams
through interactions with clients subcontractors and inspectors and
creating an environment of learning mentoring and empowerment in order to promote employee engagement.
Ensuring that the organisation meets all agreed health and safety legislation and objectives and that appropriate risk mitigation/control measures are in place.
Conduct regular touch points with SLT and Managers to ensure safety issues are being supported and/or addressed by Safety Specialists.
Lead/Manage and maintain the CoR certification responsible for annual successful audits for each business unit.
Responsible for all accidents injuries incidents and spill reporting from the site to the appropriate government agency and within the company.
Manage work-related injuries and near misses - We want to make sure everyone that comes to work returns home the same (or better) at the end of the day. For this role we need firsthand experience in SCAT investigations for accidents and near-miss occurrences analyzing injury trends and coordinating corrective actions.
Lead/Manage all WSIB worker compensation programs and Return to Work Programs.
Inform the company of trends through Safety Alerts.
Conduct site inspections of all facilities.
Frequent site visits to projects
Always keeps the companys best interests in mind.
Employee Management:
Responsible for the growth and professional development of all members of the Safety Team
Oversees hiring and succession management for the department.
Additional Responsibilities
Occasionally attends meetings with the City of Ottawa MTO MoL and other clients regarding safety topics. Offering expert advise and support and direction.
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience.
CRSP or CSP certification desired.
COR Auditor certification required.
10 years of proven success leading and managing a Health and Safety Program in a construction or mining industry.
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead company programs and change management efforts.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written including high level of comfort interacting with employees at all levels.
Ability to inspire confidence in interactions with all internal and external stakeholders.
Proven organizational and project management capabilities experience managing multiple priorities and delivering on-time excellence.
Proven collaborator with demonstrated experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Possess a valid Class G Drivers License in good standing
Working Conditions
Mix of indoor office environment and outdoor site work required.
Regular visits to projects sites and Tomlinson facilities.
Must be willing to work in a variety of environments including extreme heat and cold winter conditions.
Exposure to loud and dusty conditions in a construction environment.
