A Managed Wi-Fi Support Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing and maintaining the performance and reliability of managed Wi-Fi networks often for a variety of clients in a business or enterprise environment. Heres a detailed job description for this role:
Responsibilities:
- Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor managed Wi-Fi networks to ensure optimal performance and quick resolution of any issues. Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot network problems and perform root cause analysis on connectivity or performance issues.
- Client Support: Provide direct support to clients for all Wi-Fi related issues including configuration authentication network access and consistent performance. Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- System Maintenance: Perform regular updates and maintenance on network hardware (like routers switches and access points) and software to ensure security and efficiency. This includes applying patches and upgrading systems as necessary.
- Installation and Configuration: Assist with the installation and configuration of Wi-Fi hardware and management software. Set up user accounts permissions and access controls according to security policies.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze network traffic usage patterns and client feedback to optimize the performance and scalability of Wi-Fi networks. Make recommendations for enhancements and upgrades to improve overall service quality.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation regarding network configurations processes and service records. This documentation should be regularly updated and available for audits and compliance checks.
- Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to users on how to utilize network resources effectively. Create user manuals and FAQ resources for client reference.
- Security Compliance: Ensure all managed Wi-Fi networks comply with relevant laws and regulations regarding data security and privacy. Implement and manage network security tools and protocols such as firewalls VPNs and encryption technologies.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field.
- Knowledge of network diagnostic monitoring and management tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge in network management and support specifically with Wi-Fi technologies.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP DHCP) and a working understanding of Wi-Fi standards (IEEE 802.11).
Certifications (desirable but not essential):
- Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate Wireless (CCNA Wireless)
- CompTIA Network
