Burlington School District is seeking an experienced and energetic EL teacher to support newly arrived English Learner/multilingual students in gaining increasing familiarity with the routines of US schools as well as critical oral language reading and math skills through high-quality focused academic programming which is appropriate to their varying levels of proficiency in English. The design for the academic program will be that of a multi-age sheltered classroom specifically designed for students who have recently arrived in the US.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Requirements:

    • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
    • Endorsement in Multilingual Learner (40) or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
    • Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
    • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in differentiating instruction and planning curriculum aligned with Common Core standards/instruction using backwards design and formative assessments.
    • Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
    • Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.

Preferred Attributes:

    • Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.
    • Experience in a professional/teaching learning community; experience in co-teaching/collaborating with other educators.
    • Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool.
    • Knowledge of secondary English/EL research-based best practices including project-based and hands-on learning
    • Ongoing educational post graduate coursework in education or subject area including diversity equity and inclusion.
