Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with the appropriate endorsement in Technology Education or related fields. The candidate should possess a strong background in engineering concepts the Engineering Design Process and the integration of technology with core subjects such as mathematics and science. Experience working with middle school students in hands-on project-based learning environments is preferred. The teacher must demonstrate the ability to design and implement engaging instructional activities that promote problem-solving creativity and technological literacy. Strong communication classroom management and collaborative skills are essential along with a commitment to equitable teaching practices.

DESCRIPTION

The Middle School Technology Teacher will lead students in active learning experiences that promote understanding of engineering innovation and real-world technological applications. This role supports a progression of technology courses across grades 6 through 8 helping students develop technological literacy critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills. The teacher will create and implement instructional experiences that integrate mathematics and science content encouraging students to explore technology-oriented careers through hands-on projects and simulated learning modules. The curriculum follows guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education and the Greater Opportunities for Technology and Engineering Careers (GOTEC) framework.



GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Teach middle school technology courses including:
    • Introduction to Technology (Grade 6 9-week course)
    • Inventions and Innovations (Grade 7 Semester course)
    • Technological Systems (Grade 8 Semester course)
  • Deliver instruction that incorporates the Engineering Design Process and encourages technological literacy.
  • Design and implement engaging hands-on learning experiences that integrate math science and engineering concepts.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies including demonstrations discussions simulations and student-led projects.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with Virginia Department of Education standards and GOTEC.
  • Instruct students in the safe use and proper care of materials tools and equipment.
  • Promote exploration of engineering and technology careers through course content and simulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance attendance and progress reports.
  • Evaluate student growth in knowledge skills and attitudes related to technology and engineering.
  • Communicate regularly with parents school counselors and administrators about student progress.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment and ensure proper storage and handling of equipment and supplies.
  • Set and maintain high expectations for student behavior and engagement.
  • Participate in faculty meetings professional development sessions and curriculum planning initiatives.
  • Model inclusive and equitable instructional practices for all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the direction of the School Principal and other administrators in conjunction with the Supervisor of Career & Technical Education.

WORK CONDITIONS

The Middle School Technology Teacher works in a classroom and lab-based environment equipped with various tools machines and learning modules aligned with technology-oriented careers. The position involves regular standing light lifting and hands-on demonstration of equipment use. The teacher will manage rotating student groups and individual projects while maintaining safety and instructional quality. The position follows a 200-day contract aligned with the school divisions calendar and includes some professional development days and occasional after-school commitments for events or project showcases.

CONTRACT LENGTH

200 Days

*The salary applies to candidates who are properly licensed and endorsed in the areas for which they teach.

If you hold a bachelors degree and are willing to commit and take steps toward earning your teaching license you may be eligible for an Associate Teacher position. Associate Teachers serve in full teaching roles while receiving support and guidance as they work toward licensure. The Associate Teacher salary for 202526 is approximately $48265 (pending budget approval).
