Your role:

You are a curious reporter who is passionate about elevating the voices of Northern Manitoba.

You have or strive to build deep connections among Thompsons diverse communities and with the rest of the north.

You are a creative critical thinker who can tell compelling stories on multiple platforms: digital radio and video.

You will be expected to report breaking news produce original journalism and write stories for online platforms.

You must demonstrate and maintain strong skills in writing about Manitoba issues in a clear and concise manner.

In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

Key tasks:

  • Pitch research write and produce original story ideas for digital radio and video programming that will engage and inform the audience deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.

  • Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

  • Deliver exclusive and enterprise material on a regular basis.

  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.

  • Distil large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.

  • Work closely with the assignment team to regularly deliver stories that represent and matter to Manitobans.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong creative story ideas.

  • Deep knowledge of Indigenous issues and/or connections with First Nations Metis and Inuit.

  • Demonstrated connection to Northern Manitobas diverse cultural communities an asset.

  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

  • Proven ability to consistently file online stories.

  • Photo and/or video skills and social media knowledge are an asset.

  • Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all CBC platforms.

  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.

  • Ability to generate original enterprise journalism.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.

  • Possession of a valid drivers license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.
