QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Family and Consumer Sciences. The teacher should demonstrate knowledge and instructional expertise in areas such as nutrition child development career readiness financial literacy life skills and family and personal wellness. The position requires a strong commitment to middle school education the ability to engage diverse learners excellent classroom management skills and a passion for preparing students with practical real-world knowledge. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential as is the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues families and the school community.
DESCRIPTION
The Middle School Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging instruction that helps students develop essential life skills. The teacher will create a student-centered classroom environment where learners explore topics that promote healthy living responsible decision-making and future planning. Through hands-on activities and project-based learning the FACS teacher equips students with the tools to succeed in both their personal and academic lives. This role supports the development of students social-emotional and practical life skills aligned with state curriculum and career and technical education (CTE) standards.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the direction of the School Principal and other administrators in conjunction with the Supervisor of Career & Technical Education.
WORK CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a standard classroom and lab environment within a middle school setting. The role may require lifting or moving equipment or supplies used in instructional activities (e.g. kitchen materials child development models). The teacher may be required to attend occasional evening events such as family engagement nights or school programs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The position requires regular interaction with students families and staff in a dynamic and fast-paced educational environment.
CONTRACT LENGTH
200 Days

CONSIDERING A FUTURE IN TEACHING
If you hold a bachelors degree and are willing to commit and take steps toward earning your teaching license you may be eligible for an Associate Teacher position. Associate Teachers serve in full teaching roles while receiving support and guidance as they work toward licensure. The Associate Teacher salary for 202526 is approximately $48265 (pending budget approval).
