Position Overview:
As a CFD Engineer on the Design Analysis team you will be responsible for conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to support the design and development of conventional marine internal combustion engines drive systems electrified propulsion and vessels. Essential Functions:
Conduct detailed/comprehensive simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software such as Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM Ansys Fluent and/or other similar commercial softwares to model fluid behavior and heat transfer mechanisms.
Perform comprehensive multiphase hydrodynamic analysis of propellers drives and boats. This involves using advanced CFD tools to simulate multiphase flow scenarios including gas-liquid liquid-liquid gas-solid liquid-solid and gas-liquid-solid interactions. Experience in techniques such as the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method and Eulerian-Lagrangian approaches to model phase distribution pressure drop and flow regimes.
Work closely with design and development engineers to help provide design inputs and perform trade-off studies that will improve the product. This includes evaluating different design options and assessing their impact on performance weight cost and recommending the best solutions.
Collaborate with test engineers to specify the necessary testing and instrumentation required to validate analysis results. This includes designing test plans selecting appropriate sensors and ensuring accurate data collection.
Work independently when needed to develop innovative solutions and work well with cross-functional groups including design development and test engineers to achieve project goals.
Coordinate work packages between onsite and offshore teams. This includes managing project timelines ensuring clear communication between teams and maintaining high standards of quality and consistency in deliverables.
Document analysis findings and share the results with stakeholders engineering partners and leaders. This includes preparing detailed reports presenting findings in meetings and providing actionable recommendations based on analysis results.
Identify potential areas for new method development and work with experts to test and deploy. This involves staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in analysis techniques conducting research to develop innovative methods and implementing these methods in practical applications.
Continuously seek opportunities for improving analysis processes tools and methodologies. This includes participating in training sessions attending industry conferences and collaborating with peers to share knowledge and best practices. This also involves assessing software capabilities identifying gaps and recommending upgrades or new tools.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however others can be developed along the way.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3 years of experience performing CFD analysis using SIEMENS Simcenter STAR-CCM Ansys Fluent or similar commercial software.
Fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics thermodynamics and heat transfer.
Exposure to numerical methods and engineering analysis.
Exposure to thermal management of battery motors and power electronic components.
Strong communication and presentation skills to share analysis results and drive discussions.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in fluid dynamics and heat transfer multiphase flows IC engines and e-Machines.
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) analysis.
Multiphase and Phase Change analysis.
Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI).
Dynamic Moving and Overset mesh
CAD experience with Creo and Ansys SpaceClaim.
High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster with Linux OS.
The anticipated pay range for this position is $74600 - $119500 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills relevant experience business needs and geographic location. In addition to base pay this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus program. At Brunswick it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidates qualifications and the business context.
