The Executive Director of Academics will strive to operationalize Salem Public Schools core values by setting the vision and direction for students academic success in grades PK-12 and overseeing the development and implementation of a strategic plan to review and revise curriculum instruction and assessment for all students in general education classrooms including Dual Language based on best practices in the field. This position reports directly to the Deputy Superintendent.

A primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that all students engage with grade level standards embedded in a culturally relevant curriculum with culturally responsive instruction. Rigorous disaggregated data analysis resulting in targeted tools and resources for schools and embedded educator development are cornerstones of success.

This leader will work closely with the Deputy Superintendent and Executive Directors to ensure an integrated approach to the education of Salem Public School students.

The Executive Director of Academics will be a member of the districts Executive Team a group led by the Superintendent that works to align and streamline priorities systems and initiatives that support the work at the school and classroom level. The Executive Director of Academics will attend School Committee meetings.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Masters degree in education Educational Leadership or other related degree.
  • Minimum 8 years educational experience (classroom teaching coaching site or district level administration and/or program implementation) in a variety of settings or grades.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience developing teams and directing programs.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families.
  • An unwavering belief in the potential of all children to learn and achieve at high levels.
  • An unwavering belief in the potential of educators.
  • Commitment to interrupting inequitable practices examining biases and creating inclusive environments for children.
  • Proven expertise in data analysis and data-informed practices.
  • Solid understanding of the value of high quality curriculum instruction and assessment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of MA standards ELD models and standards-based instruction.
  • Valid Massachusetts educator license as administrator or supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate a vision for rigorous standards-based academics that leverages the cultural funds of knowledge of our students high-quality curriculum materials and research-based instructional practices.
  • Lead the implementation of regular state and local assessments and oversee the timely production of data reports that enable school and district leaders to monitor learning at regular intervals.
  • Lead teams in analyzing assessment data making data informed decisions and presenting conclusions to stakeholders.
  • Lift up best practices within the district that are leading to breakthrough results.
  • Lead the academics team in providing resources tools and guidance for addressing trends in the data.
  • Ensure ongoing excellence in instruction using research-based practices leading to strong Tier 1 practices.
  • Develop and oversee the content and delivery of high-quality professional learning experiences.
  • Implement a predictable strategic schedule for the review of print and digital district-wide curriculum resources and instructional materials.
  • Ensure implementation of strategic research-based programming and best practices to increase student engagement and academic outcomes.
  • Use the results of assessments to inform programmatic decisions.
  • Support district-wide instructional coaches through regular professional development supervision and consultation.
  • Support the preparation and management of grants and local funds allocated for academics submitting budgets and progress reports within designated timelines.
  • Supervise department staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.

  • Provides mentorship to direct reports through collaboration and consultation.
  • Ensures that all staff are evaluated annually and receive ongoing timely actionable verbal and written feedback and coaching.
  • Addresses instances of underperformance with the goals of improving student outcomes.
  • Provides technical assistance to teachers and leaders to ensure effective implementation of high-quality curriculum materials district-based assessments and culturally responsive instructional practices.

Work Year:

52 weeks

Salary Range:

$130000-$140000

At least 3 years of relevant experience required

Masters degree required

Citizenship residency Or Work VISA in United States required
