Job Description

NAYA Family Center is seeking a Parent-Child Support Specialist to deliver culturally rooted trauma-informed parenting education and home visiting services for families in the community with young children. This position works directly with families of children ages 05 using the Nurturing Parenting Positive Indian Parenting and Family Spirit models to strengthen caregiver-child relationships support early childhood development and increase access to community resources. This role carries a caseload of approximately 15 families and includes weekly caregiver-child playgroups case management and resource navigation. About 80% of the position involves direct service with the remaining time focused on administrative tasks documentation and program coordination.

This is a full-time in-person position based at our Portland campus. Work hours are typically 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evening or weekend shifts based on community needs.


The pay rate for this position is $24 an hour.


Who You Are

  • You are deeply committed to the wellbeing of children families and communities.
  • Ideally youre familiar with Native American history and understand the unique experiences and strengths of urban Native communities.
  • You have a Bachelors degree in education social work human services or a related field or a comparable combination of education and lived/professional experience.
  • You have at least two years of experience providing social educational or direct support services to families from low-income and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • You have knowledge of early childhood development parent-child attachment and trauma-informed care.
  • You are a relationship-builder who is able to engage with caregivers in meaningful respectful ways whether in their homes at playgroup or in the community.
  • Youre organized and adaptable able to manage a full caseload document your work and meet multiple deadlines.
  • You know how to navigate sensitive situations with professionalism empathy and sound judgment.
  • Youre comfortable facilitating play-based learning supporting group dynamics and adjusting your approach for children of different ages and developmental stages.
  • You work well both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Youre proficient in Microsoft Office web-based databases email and virtual communication tools.
  • Youre willing and able to complete required trainings and obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • You possess a current Oregon or Washington drivers license and the ability to be insured under NAYAs liability insurance policy (i.e. no more than one major driving violation in the last three years).

What Youll Do

  • Provide home visiting services to families with children ages 05 using the Nurturing Parenting Positive Indian Parenting and Family Spirit models.
  • Build strong supportive relationships with caregivers to promote healthy child development positive attachment and caregiver confidence.
  • Facilitate weekly caregiver-child interactive playgroups both on-site and in community settings such as parks or partner locations.
  • Support families in accessing early childhood education services and navigating developmental screenings or interventions.
  • Refer families to culturally relevant community resources and follow up to ensure satisfaction and continuity of care.
  • Promote parenting practices that honor cultural identity family strengths and community connection.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation including case notes assessments and database entries.
  • Support reporting and data tracking to meet program and grant requirements.
  • Provide occasional evening childcare coverage for other programs as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings trainings and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure strong wraparound support for families.
