Job Description:

The Director is responsible for developing goals and objectives that are actionable and align with UToledo Healths Mission and Strategic Plan. It is also responsible for managing Health Information Management (HIM) functions including the processing of legal medical documents and requests and document scanning entered into the electronic medical record as well as coding and documentation provided by a contracted coding company. This role is also responsible to ensure privacy and confidentiality of patient and institutional data for UTMC. Also assists medical and administrative leadership in evaluating and designing the quality and appropriateness of health information services for patients and health care services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in health information management Business Administration or related field is required; masters degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding SpecialistPhysician-based (CCS-P) required. Additional certifications (e.g. RHIA RHIT) a plus. HEMA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven or more (7 ) years of experience in coding and health information management with five to seven (5-7) years in a leadership or management role.
  • Expertise in ICD-10 CPT HCPCS coding and clinical documentation improvement (CDI).
  • Experience managing outsourced coding agencies and vendor relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations billing reimbursement processes and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team with excellent communication organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have advanced working knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software.
