SUMMARY:
The College of Innovation and Design (CID/CBE) Academic Advising Specialist assists students in the competency-based education programs who have completed their first term (or who enter the program Core Curriculum complete and/or with 36 or more hours) to enroll in subsequent terms.This position places a high emphasis on excellence in customer service. Utilizes established degree plans to assist students to efficiently and successfully graduate. Answers student questions and assists with individual student support service needs. The Student Support Specialists also connect students with East Texas A&M University post-graduation auxiliary services such as the Alumni Office and Career Development. The primary work location is the ETAMU Dallas site.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students in the competency-based education programs who have completed their first term or who enter the program Core Curriculum Complete and/or with 36 or more hours to enroll in subsequent terms.
- Utilize established degree plans to assist students to efficiently and successfully graduate.
- Revise and/or create degree plans to reflect program course requirements and updates.
- Register students and provide guidance on academic probation.
- Answer student questions and assist with individual student support service needs.
- Connect students with ETAMU post-graduation auxiliary services such as the Alumni Office and Career Development.
- Meet refer and follow-up with CID students regarding their needs and concerns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education:Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills:Four years of related experience in customer or student services. Knowledge of word processing spreadsheet and database applications.
- Ability to:Multi-task and work well as part of a team. Ability to process sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

- Other Requirements:May occasionally require work outside normal business hours such as evenings or weekends.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Higher education experience. Experience with Student Information Systems degree planning and degree audits. Customer service training or certifications.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
May assist to supervise graduate assistants or student workers
