About the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy:
The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) is a quasi-military style resident program for at risk youth in the ages of 16-18. Sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard the TCA mission is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment. The intent is to give them the skills and attitude to become productive citizens in their communities. The Academies are located in two different locations: Salemburg and New London North Carolina. It is a 17-month program divided into two distinct phases: a five-month in-residence phase at the academies and a twelve-month post-residential phase immediately following graduation for the in-residence phase. TCA seeks to improve the life and future employment potential of its cadets by concentrating on eight core components which are: Life Coping Skills Academic Excellence Responsible Citizenship Job Skills Service to Community Health and Hygiene Physical Fitness and Leadership/Followership.
About the Position:
Position will be tasked with planning and implementing candidate recruiting activities. Also to Establish and maintain contact with sources of candidate referrals across the State. Make individual and group presentations. Keep all sources updated on Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) activities and opportunities. Continuously work to increase number of candidate referral sources. Assist candidates/families and referral sources in completing applications. Assist in candidate interview and admission process. Explore and develop sources of mentor referrals and placement opportunities. Assist with or conduct mentor training. Assist staff and cadets in refining cadet career goals and developing opportunities. Assist in other aspects of RPM functions as needed. Transport and/or supervise cadets when participating in off-site TCA activities. Position will require periodic overnight travel.
