Ready for an exciting opportunity with SDOT We have an exciting opportunity highly collaborative and detail-oriented Associate Project Delivery Engineer (Associate Civil Engineer) on our Project Design & Delivery team in the Project Development Division. This position is responsible for preparing and designing increasingly complex highly visible engineering projects. The position is also a project manager on high profile projects including Pedestrian Master Plan improvements Bicycle Master Plan Vision Zero and other related public works projects. The role will also coordinate and act as a liaison between consultants contractors equipment & material suppliers other city Departments; and other public agencies. These programs help SDOT meet Seattle Transportation Levy to Maintain and Modernize City Streets as well as meet SDOT mission goals. This position reports to the Senior Project Senior Engineer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare plans and designs for traffic pedestrian and bicycle related improvements including signing channelization signals detours traffic controls and traffic survey & analysis.
  • Design complex detailed computer-aided drawings and maps including base maps cross sections contract plans as-built drawings sketches and graphs.
  • This work requires knowledge and the application of various civil and traffic engineering design guidelines and manuals including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) City of Seattle Standard Plans and Specifications Americans with Disabilities Act standards and Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG).
  • Serve as Project Manager for city crews ensuring adherence to project scope schedule and budget
  • Inspect monitor survey and verify information for construction and engineering-related projects for new sidewalk bicycle lanes roadway re-channelizations crosswalks rectangular rapid flashing beacons pedestrian median islands speed humps and cushions to ensure that work performed by city/contractor storm drainage concrete asphalt electrical construction crews is constructed according to approved site plan.
  • Tasks can include meeting with crew chiefs and contractors before construction begins checking and approving layout performing form checks and compiling punch lists before closeout of any project Inspect monitor survey and verify information for construction and engineering-related projects and facilities to ensure that work performed by City crews and contractors is constructed according to approved site plan.
  • Tasks can include meeting with crew chiefs and contractors before construction begins checking and approving layout performing form checks and compiling punch lists before closeout of any project.
  • Coordinate/schedule/sequence work among various city crews and stakeholders both internal and external and public and private - such as SDOT Signs and Markings Concrete Asphalt Urban Forestry Street Use Seattle Parks and Recreation Seattle City Light Seattle Public Utilities Seattle Conservation Corps and various contractors.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology

Experience:Three (3) years of professional experience in civil or traffic engineering.

OR:An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.

Though not requirements strong candidates will have some of the following experience or can describe comparable experience:

Desired Qualifications

  • Specific civil engineering experience in design of bicycle pedestrian and transit facilities roadways infrastructure and signal and lighting improvements related to public works transportation facilities.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word MS Excel SharePoint Adobe Professional AutoCAD and Civil with City of Seattle WSDOT NACTO MUTCD and City/County roadway design standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil and construction engineering including methods materials equipment and techniques used in civil engineering construction and inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans specs construction schedules contracts and other construction documents to ensure contract compliance. Willingness to work in the field during all types of weather traffic and work in or near construction sites.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide diverse population.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically performed in a hybrid work environment in which a minimum of 3 days of the work is completed in a City office and 2 days of the work is completed remotely in a regular 40-hour work week.

The Citys full salary range for this position is$ 60.15 - $ 70.20 Hourly.
