Age Specific Responsibility

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures.

SummaryThe Employment Opportunity Coordinator will work to build opportunities for candidates with vision impairments to gain employment and bring their talents to the workforce by working with candidates to develop a care plan and connect them with vision rehabilitation therapists and community partners. This role will create individualized coaching plans that provide a pathway toward successful employment opportunities for candidates. The coordinator will engage and deploy a team of professionals in the field of Blindness and Low Vision to provide specified support services as needed to both employee and employer.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Clinical Required: Provide patient care treatment and services within the scope of their license certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Network with companies dedicated to including workers with disability and educate regarding the inclusion of workers who are blind and visually impaired. Build on this base by marketing to new companies.
  • Develop marketing strategy including promotional materials presentations and benefits of hiring employees with visual impairment to meet the talent needs of employers.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm to robustly promote the jobseeker and the visually impaired community in general to the workforce.
  • Work collaboratively with the professional services team (both in and out of ABVI and Mary Free Bed) to assess job-readiness and identify additional training needs of jobseekers.
  • Willingness to acquire working knowledge of blindness-specific tools and services such as Adaptive Technology Orientation and Mobility (wayfinding) and Braille signage mobilizing the professional services team to provide these services as needed.
  • Coordinate the provision of these support services as needed to ensure accommodations are appropriate and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Confer with employer leadership / hiring manager to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training for employees to better understand job responsibilities.
  • Educate and provide recommendations to employer leadership regarding any changes in policies procedures regulations and technologies that would increase employee success.
  • Partner with employers DEI or Learning and Development initiatives to assist in facilitating an inclusive work environment for employees with visual impairment.
  • Either directly or through internal and external resources coordinate education and training to employer and coworkers as needed to facilitate an inclusive work environment.
  • Provide ongoing back-up support for both employer and employee (such as additional training job-mapping etc.) when quality or production outcomes indicate this activity is necessary.
  • Develop and administer feedback mechanisms with learners leads and supervisors once jobseeker is placed to create process improvements and continuously refine approach.
  • Accountable for employee success and continued identification of skill-gaps or additional adaptation needs through the completion of the probationary period.
  • Provide intermittent (at least quarterly) follow-up after probationary period to gauge employees and employers satisfaction.
  • Communicate positive employment outcomes throughout the employer and employee community through presentations and social media.
  • Develop and manage database to include jobseeker needs and qualifications employer data current and potential positions available updated contact information etc.

Customer Service Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages coaches and monitors the same in team members. This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement

Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.

Essential Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Human Resources Education Social Service or other related field
  • A thorough knowledge of eye anatomy and diseases of the eye the psychology of low vision the psychological implication of blindness and a general awareness of rehabilitation services.
  • A well-spoken community builder with a passion for connecting great people into good jobs.
  • Commitment to broadening anti-discrimination initiatives to include workers with visual impairment.
  • Experience in Sales/marketing or Human Resources
  • Program development and implementation
  • Public speaking experience
  • High level interpersonal skills

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Preferred Masters degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy
  • Preferred Certification in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy
  • Prefer 2 years in rehabilitation training.
  • Preferred Experience with (or willingness to learn) the field of Access Technology (JAWS Fusion ZoomText) and its compatibility with employer software also Low Vision Magnification Devices and mobile phone accessibility features.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector
  • Experience with persons with disability and/ or vocational rehabilitation
  • Training background
  • Knowledge of or experience with blindness/visual impairment
