Job Purpose
- The Statutory Review Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating statutory reviews under Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996. This role ensures that decisions made by the housing authority regarding homelessness applications are reviewed fairly lawfully and in accordance with current legislation case law and guidance. The incumbent will ensure the delivery of high-quality timely and legally robust review decisions.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Coordinate and conduct independent reviews of homelessness decisions under S202 of the Housing Act 1996.
- Assess the legality and reasonableness of original decisions including those related to eligibility priority need intentionality and suitability of accommodation.
- Draft and issue legally sound review decision letters ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
- Liaise with applicants legal representatives and internal departments to gather relevant information and ensure transparency throughout the review process.
Essential Experience Required
- Proven experience conducting S202 statutory reviews within a local authority or similar setting.
- In-depth knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and associated statutory guidance.
Essential Qualification Required
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Law Housing Social Policy or a related field (desirable).
