We have an exciting opportunity at nbn for a Senior Legal Counsel reporting to the General Manager Competition & Regulatory Legal.
A bit about your role
In this role you will provide independent expert legal advice across a range of complex regulatory and competition matters that are central to the way nbn operates and evolves. As part of the Competition & Regulatory Legal team your work will support the Economic Regulation and the Industry Regulation and Policy teams in our Regulatory function and other areas of the Legal function as well as senior leadership and the board when needed.
You will play a vital part in shaping how nbn delivers wholesale broadband services particularly through the regulatory access framework that applies to our products pricing service standards and long-term cost recovery. Your advice will guide the interpretation and application of key legislation such as the Competition and Consumer Act (including Parts XIC IV and XIB) nbns Special Access Undertaking and broader laws like the Telecommunications Act and the NBN Companies Act. You will also help navigate regulatory reset processes under nbns Special Access Undertaking regulatory investigations support compliance functions and contribute to building understanding and awareness of our legal obligations across the business.
A bit about you
To be successful in this role you will be legally qualified hold a current Australian practising certificate and have at least 7 years post qualification experience. You have specialist experience in economic regulation of utilities and large infrastructure providers - whether in Telco or a similar sector such as water energy or infrastructure would be valuable. You bring a solid grasp of competition law and statutory interpretation and you are confident offering practical commercially attuned advice in a fast-moving environment.
You approach your work with integrity and curiosity and you value collaboration open dialogue and mutual respect. You enjoy engaging with complex issues and helping teams understand their legal and regulatory context clearly. You are naturally attentive to risk and you are comfortable navigating ambiguity while keeping sight of the bigger picture.
