Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the operation of all Curriculum and Instructional affairs of the district including local state and federal programs. Provide Instructional Leadership direction and coordination under board policy guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Masters degree in education administration
Valid Texas principal certification or equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years experience as a classroom teacher
Three years experience in instructional leadership roles
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Program Management:
- Systematically and continuously monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes; uses these findings for corrective action and improvement as well as for recognition of success
- Ensures that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs
- Effectively administers and integrates all special programs with the regular program
- Provides instructional resources and material to principals through the curriculum directors in accomplishing instructional goals
- Determines and builds a common vision with staff for school improvements; directs planning activities and implements programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of schools mission
- Identifies analyzes and applies findings (e.g. effective school research correlates) to facilitate school improvement
- Leads a collaborative process to develop district performance objectives to include the Academic Excellence Indicators involving staff parents and community members
Policy Reports and Law
- Ensure compliance with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents as required.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Budget
- Develop and administer the curriculum and instruction budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
Communication
- Ensure that established goals and expectations related to implementation of the curriculum and instruction programs are communicated clearly consistently and in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals teachers staff parents and community members.
Personnel Management:
- Effective in interviewing selecting and orienting new staff; makes sound and effective recommendations relative to personnel placement transfer retention and dismissal
- Clearly defines expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and classroom management
- Uses the Administrator Appraisal Instrument appropriately and ensures that evaluations clearly and accurately represent staff performance
- Confers with Principals Directors and Coordinators regarding their professional growth; works jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals
Community Relations
- Articulate the districts mission instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing districts mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Other:
- Assumes other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise evaluate and recommend the hiring and firing of instructional supervisors and support staff in the curriculum department.*
