Job Description

The Program Director Philanthropy reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Program Director Philanthropy leads planning and implementation activities for Northwestern Memorial Foundation including the management of projects of strategic and operational importance to NM. The Program Director Philanthropy in partnership with the Director Philanthropy utilizes their program and process expertise to set departmental goals provide clear and consistent direction and feedback to lead high-performing teams executing on key NMF deliverables. They develop and sustain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to advance NMHC strategic initiatives.

NMF raises funds to support the health systems strategic goals to deliver exceptional care and experience advance and extend medical science and knowledge and enhance people culture and resources through: (1) raising planned principal and major gifts (2) cultivating and stewarding donors and (3) fostering a culture of philanthropy at NM.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate program expertise and clear leadership with the ability to manage both programs and team members articulate concise deliverables and adapt to the evolving needs of both.
  • Develop manage and professionally grow a high-functioning team.
  • Oversee the team that creates writes and delivers all major gift proposals (gifts of $100000 or more) and direct mail solicitations.
  • Personally develop and write select major gift or principal gift proposals and select direct mail campaigns.
  • Effectively uses data visualization techniques to clearly and concisely illustrate the need for support including infographics to help describe the need.
  • Responsible for new and innovative ideas on custom and mass solicitations for Northwestern Memorial Foundation donors.
  • Able to translate customized proposal information into multi-use pieces that can be delivered to donors through multi-channel methods.
  • Create narrative(s) to articulate relevant health system/clinical achievements visionary needs and aspirations strategic objectives program summaries and other information about fundraising initiatives. Solicitation messaging must collectively make persuasive compelling arguments for philanthropic gift support.
  • Responsible for ensuring successful delivery and effectiveness of all communication plans within their portfolio including direct mail annual appeals and various solicitation campaigns.
  • Creates timelines for each campaign/tactic in the donor communications plan and manages them to ensure delivery.
  • Stays informed on current and emerging trends in proposals direct mail and various donor communication strategies.
  • Leads efforts to develop activate and measure donor communication campaigns and targeted communication efforts.
  • Ensures brand voice style and tone is maintained across all platforms that they have responsibility for.
  • Defines objectives strategies tactics and performance metrics for their areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of communication plan construction and how elements fit together for maximum impact.
  • Collaborates with appropriate leadership groups to support key initiatives and gain buy-in for donor communication approaches.
  • Communicate complex ideas with colleagues at all levels of the organization; must be an effective writer and speaker.
  • Tracks engagement across various platforms and makes data-driven recommendations.
  • Utilizes excellent project management capabilities.
  • Provides information to NM departments and divisions regarding updates to communications plans and tactics.
  • Develop and manage an operating budget.
  • Maintain and/or develop organization-wide and departmental policies/procedures relevant to areas of responsibility.
  • Respond to unanticipated complex issues as well as manage critical and confidential information.
  • Identify benchmark track and utilize meaningful metrics to assess and improve donor retention as well as achieve goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously strengthen leadership capabilities.
  • Exemplify the NMHC values of patients first integrity excellence and teamwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Bachelors degree;
  • 5 years of experience in a fundraising community outreach healthcare or development position with a proven track record preferably in a non-profit organization;
  • Ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents and to network within a professional corporate environment;
  • Demonstrated project management organizational analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills;
  • High degree of professionalism sensitivity and integrity;
  • Strong intellectual curiosity initiative and highly effective listening/communication skills;
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines communicate effectively and track details;
  • Demonstrate high levels of leadership and flexibility in a team environment;
  • Comfortable leading multiple projects accurately setting priorities for team(s) on a regular basis thinking creatively and working as both a collaborative team member and leader;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).

Preferred:

  • Healthcare fundraising experience;
  • Prior staff budget and operational management experience;
  • Public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Advanced degree;
  • Excellent knowledge of Raisers Edge database.
