Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity
The School of Chemical Sciences seeks to appoint a new continuing academic as a Professional Teaching Fellow who will be initially responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of our undergraduate laboratory programme to provide a coherent high quality and research (and scholarship of teaching and learning)-informed experience for our students that builds chemistry confidence supports the lecture programme and develops critical graduate profile skills including awareness of managing risk in a strong health safety and sustainability environment. This work will be done in close collaboration with the directors of our undergraduate courses and relevant technical staff. The appointee will also contributing to lecturing across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses (primarily in general chemistry and analytical chemistry) as required by the Head of School. This is a teaching-focussed role (non-research) and the successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring student support and curriculum delivery in in Chemistry to ensure student success and retention and as well as leadership in supporting high quality teaching throughout the school contributing to and informed by the scholarship of teaching and learning.
This is a fulltime (40 hours per week) permanent position based mainly on our City but may also involve our other campuses.
**Note: the appointees will be asked to contribute to our offshore teaching commitments which can include travel to other countries as part of the role.
Remuneration range is $100696 - $111297 per annum dependent on skills and experience

- You are or have potential to become a teacher who reflects the latest advances in science and chemical education with a clear commitment to teaching excellence with experience in teaching general and analytical chemistry.
- You have demonstrated a clear interest in the design and delivery of high-quality laboratory and practical experiences in a tertiary setting that are research (and scholarship of teaching and learning)-informed build chemistry confidence supports the lecture programme and develops critical graduate profile skills including awareness of managing risk in a strong health safety and sustainability environment.
- You are or have potential to be a leader in developing teaching excellence with impact on teaching practices within the University and for the field.
- You have demonstrated your ability to ensure that students from diverse chemistry backgrounds are able to thrive and progress in chemistry and that you are effective in sharing your own passion for the subject with them.
- You are interested and are or have the potential to be active in dimensions beyond teaching and student support; for example mentoring and advising students and colleagues public outreach science communication.
- You are collaborative and collegial willing to support the successful operation of the School and will be accessible to colleagues and students; and
- You have a high-level understanding of and commitment to the principles of inclusion diversity equity and access in a university context.
- Our ideal applicant will have a conferred PhD in Chemistry or related discipline.
