As the largest and oldest mentoring agency in the region Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBS) has a strong foundation that supports life-changing mentoring relationships between caring adult volunteers (Bigs) and young people (Littles). By partnering with young people parents/guardians and volunteer mentors BBBS defends and amplifies the potential of youth through impactful relationships educational support and increased confidence and social-emotional skills.

Job Details:

Position Title: Volunteer Intake Coordinator

Salary Range: $20.50 - $22.50/hour

Supervisor: Assistant Manager of Volunteer Enrollment

Department: Enrollment & Matching

Job Type: Part Time Non-Exempt

Location: Minneapolis

Hours: 1020 hours per week primarily during evenings and weekends including approximately 4 weekend hours per month. Although some flexibility exists scheduling will align with program needs and participant availability.

Closing Date: Open until filled

Language: Spanish or Somali preferred

Supervisor: Assistant Manager of Enrollment & Matching

Essential Job Functions

Interview and assess diverse volunteers for eligibility for the program. This includes:

  • Schedule and conduct in-depth virtual interviews
  • Provide a program orientation and overview including volunteer expectations the enrollment process and next steps
  • Lead coaching conversations applying our Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion values
  • Ensure a high-level of proficiency in applying child safety and risk management throughout all aspects of job duties
  • Gather and review collateral information as needed. This includes but is not limited to volunteer background checks public domain search references counseling forms and surveys.
  • Write detailed and comprehensive assessments based on participant interviews including objective observations recommendations for the right match and additional training needed
  • Complete all necessary database entries according to agency standards with adherence to confidentiality
  • Ongoing check-ins with supervisor for case consultations and caseload review

Contribute to the mission and success of the agency

  • Adopt strengths-based perspectives when discussing specific groups or contexts particularly those historically marginalized.
  • Handle data from youth families mentors or other constituents with care ensuring secure and private maintenance.
  • Stay informed about community needs resources and networks.
  • Collaborate with others to achieve goals outlined in the annual business plan.
  • Honor and respect the diversity of lived experiences fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the organization.
  • Represent BBBS well in the broader community.
  • Assist in agency-wide events and initiatives including recruitment fundraising event management and community outreach.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in social services or related field. Or meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Within 6 months of completing bachelors degree
    • AA degree and 2 years relevant work experience
    • No degree 4 years of relevant work experience

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding volunteer motivations or experience with volunteer intake and placement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth development and family dynamics
  • Experience with handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Experience with interviewing and assessment writing
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting guidelines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment make sound decisions & problem solve
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external constituents
  • Goal-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and results

Physical Requirements

The applicant can expect sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in the greater Twin Cities serving Hennepin Ramsey Anoka and parts of Dakota and Washington counties. Each year we match up to 2600 youth (Littles) and their families with caring adults (Bigs) who volunteer as youth mentors.
