Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of assigned manager in conducting safety inspection audits and
safety training for the City of Memphis. Assists various divisions with hazard recognition in the workplace. Communicates with
and trains all levels within the organization regarding safety inspections injury prevention and safety education and awareness.
Monitors and processes precursors and near miss incidents. Maintains audit metrics and submits data to management to use for
training resource to mitigate or eliminate injuries. Participates with internal and external sources to ensure audits are conducted and
facilitated. Assists management in ensuring safety programs follow applicable laws and Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) regulations. Supports the investigation of workplace accidents to determine potential unsafe working
conditions or practices which may require responding to emergency situations that occur 24-hours a day. Reviews and submits the
proper documentation to management to ensure the adequate recommendation can be approved. Serves as guide for site visits and
provides necessary documentation to management for review. Coordinates safety fair and other annual events as required by
management. Creates and prepares various reports and correspondences for meetings as needed. Assists manager in training of staff
and aids with regulatory and non-regulatory safety training programs. Assists with invoices for invoice processing and any financial
needs. Organizes and updates training documentation materials. Updates and maintains records logs and reports regarding vendors
incidents and safety audits. Drives to various locations throughout the City to conduct safety audits as needed. Keeps abreast of
current safety issues trends and methodologies.

OTHER FUNCTIONS: Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to
work effectively with employees at diverse levels. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer
calculator copier fax machine telephone and related software. Requires the ability to do physically demanding work which
includes climbing crawling crouching and standing for extended periods of time to conduct safety audits. Requires the ability to
operate a motor vehicle.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment and involves contact with staff vendors the
public. Conducts offsite audits & assessments and attends various meetings around the city.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate and seven (7) years of Human Resources related experience or
professional experience conducting safety audits environmental inspections; or any combination of experience and training which
enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license as a condition of continued
employment. Working experience in Safety Administration preferred. Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and
Certified Safety Professional preferred.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. The City Charter requires that City Employees with the EXECEPTION of first responders must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee House Bill 105 first responder means paid full-time law enforcement officers firefighters and emergency medical personnel and dispatchers of law enforcement fire and emergency medical service departments.
