General Summary
We are seeking a social worker (SW) to join our Ambulatory Services team at the University of Maryland Medical Centers Neurology Care Center. This is a hospital-based practice that provides an exciting opportunity for a social worker to provide high quality and efficient delivery of comprehensive social services needs and determinants. The Neurology Care Center provides tertiary evaluation and treatments for complex neurological conditions including Parkinsons disease multiple sclerosis stroke neuropathy myasthenia gravis ALS dystonia tremor epilepsy Alzheimers disease Huntingtons disease headaches and other neurologic disorders. Our neurologists are world/nationally renowned leaders in their subspecialties committed to providing the highest level of patient care. Our specialty care includes Maryland Center for Multiple Sclerosis Parkinsons & Movement Disorder Center Neuromuscular Diseases Epilepsy Center Headache/Migraine General Neurology Stroke Center Dystonia. Other specialized services provided include infusions botulinum toxin injections lumbar puncture biopsies EEG EMG/NCS autonomic testing neuropsychological testing and clinical trials.
The social worker will work collaboratively with the neurologists and nurse manager to plan and implement the delivery of compassionate and comprehensive care for the population served. The social worker will evaluate clients needs strengths situations and support networks while considering the patients physical emotional behavioral and financial circumstances. The social worker will also secure and refer clients to needed resources such as health care educational resources and occupational assistance. The social worker is expected to effectively communicate and promote innovation and excellence in clinical care and service performance.

Qualifications :
Education Experience and Qualifications
1. Masters degree in Social Work accredited by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
2. LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) licensure from the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
3. Minimum one (1) year of related experience is required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrate skill in a) general social work and/or case management practice areas; b) completing social work functions under supervision including biopsychosocial assessment resource coordination case management psychoeducation referral information gathering therapy counseling mental health diagnosis consultation advocacy; c) effective critical thinking d) communications both written and oral; and e) age appropriate interpersonal interactions (patients may range from newborn to geriatric adult).
2. Ability to a) communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders (i.e. colleagues medical staff liaisons patient family); b) assess adapt and calmly respond to changing and/or crisis environment; c) make decisions consistent with current policies procedures and ethical standards while operating under supervision; d) prioritize work assignments and manage time effectively to complete duties; and (e) understand and follow written and verbal instruction.
3. Adhere to the professional principles and standards of practice consistent with underlying core values of the profession as outlined by the NASW Code of Ethics.
