Statement of Duties:
Gateway Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Boxing Club Advisor to lead and supervise an after-school boxing club for middle and high school students. This role is designed to engage students in a structured safe and positive physical activity that promotes fitness discipline confidence and social-emotional growth. The ideal candidate will use boxing as a tool to foster resilience respect and personal development all within an inclusive and supportive environment tailored to the unique needs of alternative education students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and facilitate engaging boxing sessions for an hour per week after school.
- Teach basic boxing techniques fitness conditioning and self-discipline skills appropriate for beginners and intermediate students.
- Create a safe welcoming and inclusive club atmosphere that encourages student participation personal growth and teamwork.
- Model and promote respect sportsmanship and positive peer interactions at all times.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with district policies and liability guidelines.
- Supervise students before during and after club sessions to ensure appropriate behavior and engagement.
- Communicate with families and staff as needed to support student involvement and success.
- Maintain attendance records and report student participation to the Gateway Academy Principal.
- Coordinate the use of facilities and equipment and ensure all materials are properly stored and maintained.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model understanding and responding to the unique challenges faced by students in an alternative school setting.
Qualifications:
- Experience in boxing (competitive or instructional) and/or fitness training strongly preferred.
- Experience working with middle/high school students particularly those from diverse and at-risk backgrounds is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and positive relationships with students.
- Ability to create structured safe and engaging physical activities.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass all required background checks and clearances as per school district policy.
Qualifications Preferred (but not required):
- Patience empathy and a commitment to supporting youth development in alternative education.
- Prior coaching or teaching experience in boxing martial arts or fitness programs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning strategies.
- Certification in boxing instruction (e.g. USA Boxing Coach Certification) is a plus.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
