The Performance Responsibilities of the Director of the Freshman Academy include but are not limited to the following:
collaboration with Director of Curriculum and Instruction coordinate the work of Academic Chairs in developing and implementing a high quality academic program for grade 9 students.
all aspects of scholastic achievement of students.
a safe learning environment in the building.
with faculty and staff to promote a sense of pride and belonging among students.
as a member of the Student Support Services Team regarding overall student discipline attendance student handbook and other student issues.
and assist staff in developing a positive learning environment that addresses the needs of all learners.
a sense of pride and belonging among staff and students.
guidance counselors to ensure the total development of the students.
close contact with the students homes as well as with attendance officers parent liaisons outreach workers and other student support services personnel.
staff regarding attendance and tardiness.
student attendance and ensure compliance with school committee policies regarding attendance.
all student academic and programmatic issues including promotion and retention.
with all academic department chairs and other administrators to ensure appropriate implementation of academic courses and programs.
the direction of the Director of Curriculum work with department chairs teachers and others regarding curriculum and program development.
the direction of the Coordinator of Student Support Services work with guidance counselors and other school personnel around student issues such IEPs 504 plans TATs student scheduling alternative programs etc.
as a contributing evaluator for all staff at the Clement G. McDonough building.
and maintain a positive climate for students and staff.
as a community liaison for the freshman program.
and supervise appropriate reporting tracking and data management systems for the program and students.
with hiring of staff.
Lowell High School at meetings with parents community groups etc.
all other duties as assigned by the Headmaster.
REQUIREMENTS:
1.A Masters degree from an accredited college or university.
valid for service as a teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
valid for service as a Principal or Supervisor/Director in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
ability to coordinate all aspects of academic and student support services in a public school setting.
least five years successful teaching or related experience.
organizational and interpersonal skills.
knowledge of curriculum frameworks and best practices.
computer proficiency preferred.
problem solving skills.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: start of School Year 2025/2026
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As per LSAA contract
