Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate Social Worker to help serve the community of St Vincent de Paul Catholic School. Our families/clients are or may be affected by issues such as neglect child abuse domestic violence mental health and parental substance abuse. Cases will be handled by phone or in person. You will be in charge of assessing clients/parents and gathering relevant information about their cases providing crisis intervention personal attention and contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services.

  • A key to succeeding in this role is the ability to stay calm and empathize with clients when they are upset. You should also be aware of others reactions and understand why they react as they do.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting clients/parents in receiving services by telephone and in person. Contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services.
  • Getting clients/parents involved in beneficial activities. Tracking progress.
  • Bringing programs or workshops to school for students or parents during school hours.
  • Bringing speakers or workshops for PiE meetings. Create a year plan with emphasis in various pertinent/helpful programs for our community.
  • Assessing clients/parents and gathering relevant information.
  • Offering information and supporting clients/parents and their families.
  • Attending and participating in school events.
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.
  • Participating in training supervision and meetings.
  • Watch for signs of child abuse or neglect in cooperation with school nurse/health assistant.
  • Providing staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural societal economic familial health etc.) affecting a students performance and behavior.
  • Assessing students with mental health concerns.
  • Developing staff in-service training programs.
  • Assisting teachers with behavior management.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success.
  • Assisting with conflict resolution and anger management.
  • Helping the child develop appropriate social interaction skills.
  • Assisting the child in understanding and accepting self and others.
  • Investigating families with excessives tardies and/or absences in order to improve school attendance. Will require tracking and visiting families whose children miss more than 10% attendance.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and cooperate in necessary presentations.
  • Visiting families when necessary (usually with an administrator or counselor). One every two weeks
  • Providing quarterly reports and recommendations to administrators. Reports on attendance students getting breakfast/lunch timely pickups.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in psychology social work or related field.
  • Self-motivated
  • Bilingual- English and Spanish essential.
  • Experience working with clients that are affected by issues including neglect child abuse domestic violence mental health and parental substance abuse.
  • Ability to give full attention to what social service clients/parents are saying understand the points being made ask questions and not interrupt inappropriately.
  • Awareness of others reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Ability to judge the relative costs and benefits of potential social service and health care actions and choose the most appropriate one.
  • Comfortable using a computer for various tasks.
  • Proficiency in office type software i.e. Word Excel Google Suite PowerPoint.
  • Compassion and an ability to stay calm and empathize with clients when they are upset.
  • Licensed clinical social worker.
  • Able to develop a treatment plan.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Understanding of Catholic Social Justice
  • Performs any other job related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.
