About the Role
The Senior Research Contracts Lawyer is pivotal in enabling Victoria Universitys research initiatives by facilitating impactful collaborations and ensuring the legal integrity of pioneering projects.
This role offers the opportunity to partner with internal and external stakeholders to provide pragmatic and responsive legal services that support Victoria Universitys strategic plan and its compliance with regulatory and legal obligations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enablingVictoria Universitys Research and Impact Plan 2023-2028through the provision of expert legal counsel and support.

Key Responsibilities
An example of key responsibilities you may perform will include:
- Review draft and negotiate a broad range of competitive and commercial research agreements ensuring terms and conditions are compliant with University policies relevant laws and regulations and identified compliance obligations.
- Provide concise expert advice to stakeholders and prepare recommendations to the Universitys delegated authorities for contract approval and signing including assessments of risk and compliance obligations.
- Subjecttoappropriateinternalapprovalacceptlowriskchangestotermsandconditionsofagreements whererequiredand assist withthepreparationofcomprehensiveandaccurateagreementschedules.
- Undertake necessary compliance checks to mitigate significant risks relevant to the University research sector.
- Establishandmaintaineffective relationshipswithkeyinternal and externalstakeholders.
Conditions
This is afull time 2 year fixed term position at theHEP 9 classification with a salary range of $128446 - $133636 (per annum)plus17% employer superannuation contributions working36.75 (1.0 FTE) hours per week.

About You
You will have:
- A tertiary qualification in law and an Australian legal practitioner with a current Victorian legal practising certificate (unrestricted) with at least six years post-admission experience in an in-house setting or in private practice.
- Possess and demonstrate robust knowledge and experience in contract/commercial intellectual property corporations and compliance/regulatory law with commercialisation research experience being a desirable attribute.
- Abilitytoreviewandcritiqueawiderangeoffunding non-fundingandcommercialagreements and to provide clear concise & commercially pragmatic feedback and expert advice to stakeholders.
- An excellent ability to work autonomously and as part of a team and exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and negotiate confidently with senior executive and leadership.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to contribute to a team that values wellbeing collaboration and connectedness.
- Outstanding time management and organisational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage multiple matters and priorities at the same time.
