Summary:

The Department of Pathology is actively recruiting aResearch Coordinator toprovide support for research activities and a research repository to assesschromosomal and genetic changes that are acquired across the of the department is this organization is to provide: (1) individuals with researchopportunities to join studies to assess cellular changes acquired across thelifespan; (2) high quality analyses of the chromosomal/genetic complements ofcase specimens; and (3) to provide cells/data for the NMASKK researchrepository. Communication with research participants data entry/analysis andteaching to appropriate students and health care professionals are also ofparamount importance in meeting the goals of our mission as is the attainment/retentionof research grants

Typical Duties

  • Coordination of the ascertainment and recruitment of study participants.
  • Communication with study participants to provide them with specimen collection opportunities via either a face-to-face meeting or remote participation.
  • Communication with mobile phlebotomy representatives to facilitate remote blood collections.
  • Documentation of study participant interactions and consent.
  • Preparation of study participant metrics and outcomes for study progress tracking.
  • Collection and review of medical history information and completion of deep phenotyping data analysis.
  • Analysis of phenotype metrics to assess potential correlations with biomarkers.
  • Compilation and communication of the results of the analysis of the number and structure of chromosomes in cells using molecular cytogenetic techniques including (but not limited to) FISH technology.
  • Organization of the NMASKK repository and communication with repository members to enhance community engagement.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of genetic counseling skills medical genetics (with a focus on Down syndrome) and cytogenetics
  • Knowledge of health care systems and opportunities for remote study participant engagement
  • Keen communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • A sense of responsibility and respect for study participants and patient confidentiality
  • Bachelors degree in a life science program.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a life science program.
  • Experience in genetic counseling preferred
  • Certification (past or present) as a genetic counselor desired
