Description

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

To maintain and prepare the laboratories for the teaching and research needs of the professional Pharm.D. program and graduate programs as determined in conjunction with the Chair of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences. Responsibilities will include the compounding/pharmaceutics laboratory analytical dispensing sterile products professional pharmacy practice pharmaceutical engineering and research laboratories. To ensure students and faculty are up to date with required safety training and work with the safety committee to ensure laboratories are in compliance with regulations. To maintain laboratory supplies and order as needed for the laboratory courses thesis research projects and assist with ordering for faculty research projects. To assist with the implementation of laboratory courses including delivery grading proctoring and posting of material where appropriate Areas of expertise may include but are not limited to Pharmaceutical Sciences regulatory affairs laboratory safety biology chemistry or related areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create and maintain computer-based laboratories supplies/equipment inventory that includes identifying vendors placing orders for equipment pharmaceutical materials lab hardware plastic and glass wares and general supplies.
  • Conduct mock lab exercises prepare stock materials and supplies to obtain optimal procedures for lab assignments.
  • Create customize and maintain inventory of student lockers and supply boxes.
  • Work with Pharmacy faculty to develop prescription-based exercises that are patient-centered or disease oriented.
  • Work with Graduate faculty and students to created laboratory exercises that are technically relevant.
  • Oversee the compounding of non-sterile and sterile (e.g. parenterals otic and ophthalmic) products.
  • Assist assess and grade learners as they conduct lab experiments.
  • Grade laboratory reports and exams where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the faculty of Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical and Administrative Science in the College to maintain an optimal work environment in the professional laboratories.
  • Maintain safety data sheets and OSHA standards for all laboratories.
  • Performing/scheduling routine maintenance of equipment
  • Serve on College committees such as the safety committee as appropriate and assigned.
  • Provide initial safety training to personnel working in the laboratories (instructional and research)
  • Assist in the development of new programs in areas of expertise (ie pharmaceutical engineering)
  • Supervise work study students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assists Pharmacy faculty in the development of courses.
  • Participates in the assessment of students.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to students in multiple laboratory and/or didactic classes.
  • Conduct tours of the facilities.
  • Support the development and writing of generated grants.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Appropriate bachelor/master degrees in pharmaceutical sciences chemistry cell/molecular biology or related disciplines
  • Extremely effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with self-discipline to work independently.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Competencies in management of resources; business and organizational skills; communication and team building.
  • Enthusiasm sense of humor sensitivity to others willingness to take on new challenges and an open and appropriately assertive manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization self-initiation and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to maintain strict code of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in partnership with faculty administration and staff.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to present self in a highly confident and professional manner as a representative of the College and University.
  • Ability to address and/or resolve conflict.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Usual office/laboratory environment
  • Ability to work unimpeded in a laboratory setting
  • Ability to read computer screens and printed materials.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via the telephone in person and electronically. Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
