Job Description

Title: NDIS Remote Early Childhood Support Worker

Location: Derby Western Australia

Employment Type: Full Time

Remuneration: $75013 per annum pro rata superannuation salary sacrifice

About the Position:

The Support Worker is responsible to support the Remote Early Childhood Support Program (RECS) Allied Health Team to provide early childhood support services for children living with disability or developmental delay up to the age of 7 years. The RECS Allied Health Team provides allied healthcare and advice. The RECS Childhood Support Worker translates this information to ensure the health messages and information are understood supports the delivery of the services helps facilitate the interaction between individuals family groups and the community.

About the Organisation:

Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) providing holistic primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Derby and surrounding communities. DAHS provide a wide range of innovative public health programs in addition to direct comprehensive primary health care services.

About You

To be considered for the position you must have:

  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a range of Aboriginal language and family groups.
  • Experience in local community and Aboriginal culture.
  • Ability and experience working collaboratively and within a team environment.
  • Ability to support the delivery of programs to individuals and small groups.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level integrity in maintaining community and organisational confidentiality.
  • Strong organisational skills the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity in maintaining confidentiality is a pre-requisite for this position.
  • Current C class WA drivers license.
  • Current WA Working with Childrens Check.
  • Current National Police clearance (no older than 6 months).
  • First Aid or CPR Certificate

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Communicate with families and children openly and with respect for differences in person family and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Coordinator care for families in liaison with services and the RECS Allied Health Team.
  • Support the delivery of individual and group-based programs.
  • Assist in increasing the uptake of existing and new children with possible developmental delay obtaining Remote Early Childhood Support services.
  • Remind mothers/carers when and why their children are due for appointments with allied health personnel.
  • Work closely with the RECS Allied Health Team and the clinic personnel.
  • Advise RECS Allied Health Team Leader about issues in a participants family background.
  • Liaise with KAMS Population Health Units (PHU) Graphic Team and other PHU personnel to develop culturally appropriate health education resources.
  • Liaise with other Aboriginal Medical Services local mainstream and community services in the care coordination of participants.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication links with the community by liaising with clients and notifying them of their appointment times where appropriate
