The Lead Hand Carpenter is a working lead position responsible for performing skilled carpentry work while coordinating and guiding a small team on various maintenance and renovation projects. This role combines hands-on carpentry duties with leadership responsibilities ensuring the quality and timely completion of work across the property. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills a collaborative approach and a passion for craftsmanship and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate all carpentry-related projects and repairs across the property ensuring high standards of craftsmanship and adherence to Fairmont brand standards.
- Lead the key management program for all hotel and staff residence keys including fabrication and maintenance.
- Supervise a team of carpenters providing direction mentorship scheduling and quality control for daily operations and larger renovation projects.
- Plan design and execute complex carpentry work including custom millwork wood paneling moldings cabinetry and fine furniture repair.
- Work closely with the Engineering team and other hotel departments to ensure facility aesthetics and functionality meet guest and operational needs.
- Source order and manage materials tools and carpentry inventory efficiently balancing quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct routine site inspections and proactive assessments to identify repair needs and opportunities for property enhancements.
- Uphold and enforce all safety regulations and standards; participate in hazard assessments and ensure the team works in compliance with hotel and regulatory guidelines.
- Respond to urgent repair calls and emergencies as needed with flexibility in work hours based on hotel demands.
Qualifications :
- Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in carpentry with a leadership or supervisory background preferred.
- Strong technical expertise in finish carpentry millwork cabinetry furniture repair joinery and fine detailing.
- Proven ability to lead train and develop a team while delivering projects on time and to high standards.
- Solid understanding of Alberta building codes occupational health & safety standards and construction best practices.
- Excellent organizational problem-solving and communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments.
- Vocational training or recognized certification in carpentry or related trade is required.
- Valid Alberta Drivers License with a clean driving record.
- Must provide own hand tools as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends or evenings as needed.
