Position Summary: The GIS employee reporting to the GIS Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing public works infrastructure data. This position primarily involves maintaining and enhancing GIS data for sewer water stormwater and pavement networks. Additionally the employee will provide direct support to public works staff using the enterprise asset management (EAM) system perform in-depth data analysis for official reports and generate essential maps for various project deliverables. Essential Duties: - Performs data entry and spatial updates for infrastructure networks based on engineering as-built drawings field observations aerial photographs and existing maps
- Ensures data integrity and synchronization between GIS feature classes and the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system using established tools and workflows.
- Identifies and resolves utility network errors adhering to industry standards and best practices to ensure proper topological rules.
- Prepares professional maps figures statistics and other data for official reports projects and public presentations in a timely manner
- Supports and collaborates with department staff and external contractors on field data collection projects including map and survey design leveraging ArcGIS field applications.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of GIS web applications to enhance data accessibility for internal and external stakeholders.
- Creates and maintains clear comprehensive documentation for GIS projects workflows and data standards.
- Provides technical assistance and training to department staff on the use of GIS applications and data.
Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: A degree or certificate in GIS Engineering Geography or a related field is preferred. While one year of professional experience is desirable we encourage recent graduates to apply if they can demonstrate relevant experience gained through internships projects or coursework. Candidates should preferably have knowledge of public works infrastructure systems management and asset management concepts. If using education as a primary qualification please describe relevant coursework. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: - Familiarity with basic GIS principles and concepts; understanding of spatial data projections coordinate systems and basic cartography.
- Understanding of GIS data models and data structure (e.g. enterprise geodatabases feature classes).
- Comprehension of public works infrastructure (sewer water stormwater and pavement)
- Data maintenance using GIS software particularly ArcGIS Pro.
- Exposure to enterprise asset management (EAM) and GIS data integration.
- Convert data between AutoCAD and common GIS formats.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Online/Enterprise and foundational knowledge of Enterprise Geodatabases (SDE)
- Capability to assist with or conduct field data collection using survey grade GPS and tools like ArcGIS Field Maps
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot data errors and inconsistencies.
- Ability to design clear effective and professional maps.
- Ability to work accurately and with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Ability to gather analyze and integrate spatial data from engineering consultants.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions: - Work is performed in a standard City office environment.
