Job Description & Summary

Our Property Tax group within the Indirect Tax practice is a leader in the global commercial real estate (CRE) industry. Our dedicated team focuses on helping clients optimize cash flow and mitigate risk by addressing the intricacies of property assessment and taxation. You will play a key role in supporting our clients in relation to both regional and national projects as well as value-added tax projects associated with property assessment and taxation. Your expertise will be called upon to critically review and evaluate property tax appeal positions offering informed recommendations and adeptly managing the appeal process in accordance with the firms rigorous policies standards and guidelines.

Meaningful work youll be part of

As a Property Tax Analyst youll work as part of a team of problem solvers helping to solve complex property tax issues from strategy to execution. You will provide strategic advice on local property assessment and tax affairs. Your expertise will be crucial in performing assessment valuation analysis preparing comprehensive reports and navigating assessment reviews and appeals.

  • Conduct market and data analysis: utilize data analytics to provide insights that inform property valuation and tax strategies and maintain the highest standards of quality in data management

  • Engage in strategic property assessment and taxation review: conduct strategic analysis of property assessments to ensure accurate taxation and identify opportunities for cash flow optimization

  • Facilitate appeals and dispute resolution: assist in the management of appeals; including valuation analysis and the preparation of hearing materials

  • Innovative problem-solving: Apply innovative thinking to solve complex property tax challenges adding value to client engagements

Experience and skills youll use to solve

  • Tax Experience: Prior experience in property tax or CRE valuation either in the public or private sector is an asset

  • A post-secondary degree (or equivalent work experience) in real property valuation property assessment real estate urban studies economics finance or law is essential

  • This role doesnt support completion of the Canadian CPA designation

  • Technology proficiency: familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word Outlook Adobe Acrobat) and advanced Excel skills

  • Analytical skills: candidates must possess strong attention to detail and the ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Teamwork and collaboration: ability to work well in a team environment share and collaborate effectively with others

  • Self-motivation: a self-motivated individual who is detail-oriented deadline-driven and capable of creative problem-solving

  • Communication and interpersonal skills: verbal and written communication skills are essential along with good interpersonal skills and the ability to read and interpret legislation
