Job Description

Tax Incentive Engineer will be a key member of the Energy Efficiency Commercial Buildings Deduction (179D) and Research and Experimentation (R&E) Tax Credit team. This individual will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal as well as a strong engineering background. This will be an opportunity to be part of a growing dynamic team and to help our clients take advantage of multiple tax incentives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • 179D Deduction Projects
    • Review and interpret construction drawings specifications field notes and photographs to help develop accurate 3D models of existing buildings
    • Perform energy modeling simulations for 179D using DOE software
    • Prepare clear and professional project documentation and communicate progress with internal teams and clients
    • Assist PE with commercial building inspections
  • R&E Tax Credit projects
    • Assist with the determination of project methodologies taking advantage of available client information and documentation
    • Assist with determination of qualified research expenditures
    • Assist with review of R&E tax credit project deliverables including reports and project narratives
  • Business development
    • Participate in client/prospect calls and meetings to identify potential research tax credit opportunities
    • Assist with client/prospect follow up for the development of credit estimates and proposals

Required Experience/Background/Skills

  • Proficiency with CAD Software
  • Bachelors degree in engineering discipline
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • High attention to detail initiative and follow through
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly motivated professional energetic and resourceful
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as a team member
  • Comfortable engaging with clients
  • Ability to review and analyze construction drawings

Preferred Experience

  • EIT or working towards EIT
  • Desire to become a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including experience with data analytics tools including Power Pivot and Power Query.
  • Experience in the Architecture Engineering and Construction industry
  • Knowledge of commercial building HVAC
  • Experience with energy modeling software

Working Conditions

  • The typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and client expectations especially approaching tax deadlines
  • Up to 20% travel to other RubinBrown offices and client sites may be required
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to move throughout office
  • Ability to lift carry push pull up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to speak English to communicate with clients team members etc.
