Tax Incentive Engineer will be a key member of the Energy Efficiency Commercial Buildings Deduction (179D) and Research and Experimentation (R&E) Tax Credit team. This individual will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal as well as a strong engineering background. This will be an opportunity to be part of a growing dynamic team and to help our clients take advantage of multiple tax incentives.
Primary Responsibilities
179D Deduction Projects
Review and interpret construction drawings specifications field notes and photographs to help develop accurate 3D models of existing buildings
Perform energy modeling simulations for 179D using DOE software
Prepare clear and professional project documentation and communicate progress with internal teams and clients
Assist PE with commercial building inspections
R&E Tax Credit projects
Assist with the determination of project methodologies taking advantage of available client information and documentation
Assist with determination of qualified research expenditures
Assist with review of R&E tax credit project deliverables including reports and project narratives
Business development
Participate in client/prospect calls and meetings to identify potential research tax credit opportunities
Assist with client/prospect follow up for the development of credit estimates and proposals
Required Experience/Background/Skills
Proficiency with CAD Software
Bachelors degree in engineering discipline
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word Excel and PowerPoint
High attention to detail initiative and follow through
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Highly motivated professional energetic and resourceful
Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as a team member
Comfortable engaging with clients
Ability to review and analyze construction drawings
Preferred Experience
EIT or working towards EIT
Desire to become a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including experience with data analytics tools including Power Pivot and Power Query.
Experience in the Architecture Engineering and Construction industry
Knowledge of commercial building HVAC
Experience with energy modeling software
Working Conditions
The typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and client expectations especially approaching tax deadlines
Up to 20% travel to other RubinBrown offices and client sites may be required
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Ability to move throughout office
Ability to lift carry push pull up to 10 pounds
Ability to speak English to communicate with clients team members etc.
