Job Description

Title: Investigations Unit Manager Consumer Protection

Job Duties

This individual will manage the Investigations Unit of the Consumer Protection Section whose staff members investigate suspected violations of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act and other state and federal consumer protection laws. The Investigations Unit Manager also will carry a caseload with responsibility to handle consumer complaints that allege violations of law facilitate the resolution of consumer complaints as may be appropriate and work with Consumer Protection Section attorneys to develop and pursue possible enforcement actions. This individual will conduct consumer and witness interviews draft interview summaries and prepare investigative reports. When appropriate the Investigations Unit Manager will perform field investigations including in matters involving the sale of substances containing tetrahydrocannabinol unlawful price gouging and towing law violations. Routine interaction with state/federal officials businesses and the general consuming public is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates should have knowledge and experience in consumer protection laws conducting interviews and investigations and facilitating the resolution of consumer complaints.
  • Candidates also should have well-developed oral and written communication skills; a proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced high-volume environment; and the skills to interact effectively with other state/federal agencies and the general public.
  • Proficiency using personal computers is required including a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and databases.

Additional Considerations

  • Preferred candidates will possess a B.A. or B.S. college degree in criminal justice public administration political science government or a related field; or the equivalent combination of experience training and education in law enforcement regulatory enforcement or investigations.
  • Preferred candidates also should have the demonstrated ability to motivate coach lead and manage personnel.
