Job Description

General Summary:

The Attendance Manager plays a critical leadership role in supporting Springfield Public Schools mission to improve student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. The Manager is responsible for supervising the Attendance Specialist providing strategic direction and oversight to school-based attendance teams and utilizing data to inform and implement effective attendance interventions. This position also represents the district in juvenile court for attendance-related matters including Failure to Send and Child Requiring Assistance (CRA) filings.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Supervise and provide ongoing coaching to the Attendance Specialist to ensure consistent district-aligned attendance practices.

  • Guide and support school-based attendance teams including coaching team members facilitating data reviews and aligning efforts with district attendance goals.

  • Serve as a key advisor to school administrators regarding attendance procedures and intervention strategies.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Analyze attendance trends across schools using PowerSchool and the Data Warehouse to identify chronic absenteeism and at-risk students.

  • Develop implement and monitor attendance improvement strategies based on data.

  • With the Assistant Superintendent prepare and present actionable reports for school and district leaders to drive intervention planning.

Compliance & Legal Representation:

  • Represent Springfield Public Schools in Springfield Juvenile Court in matters related to Failure to Send and CRA petitions.

  • Prepare and submit documentation required for filing 51a for attendance-related concerns.

  • Ensure all attendance practices comply with state and federal regulations.

Family & Community Engagement:

  • Serve as a liaison between the school families and community agencies to address barriers to attendance.

  • Conduct home visits and support the Home Visit Project Initiative as needed.

  • Engage directly with parents and guardians to support student re-engagement and identify wraparound services.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of outreach efforts interventions and communications through PowerSchool and Student Success Plans.

  • Review monthly attendance data with the Assistant Superintendent to inform district-wide attendance initiatives.

District-Level Engagement:

  • Participate in and help lead monthly District Attendance Team meetings.

  • Collaborate with City Connects DCF and other service providers to ensure timely and appropriate support for students.

  • Conduct attendance sweeps and lead follow-up actions in partnership with the Assistant Superintendent.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

  • Support realignment or reassignment of school-based support as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Associates degree required; bachelors degree in education social work criminal justice or a related field preferred.

  2. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience working with school-age students.

  3. Prior supervisory experience and/or team leadership preferred.

  4. Strong understanding of school attendance laws and intervention strategies.

  5. Skilled in data collection analysis and reporting to support decision-making.

  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student data systems (e.g. PowerSchool).

  7. Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills.

  8. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

  9. Reliable transportation and cell phone (reimbursable).

  10. Flexibility to work evenings and travel to homes schools or court as required.

  11. Demonstrated attendance record of 95% or higher in previous roles.
