Is AECL right for you

As a federal Crown corporation Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) has a mandate to enable nuclear science and technology and manage the Government of Canadas radioactive waste liabilities. Since 2015 AECL has been delivering its mandate through a Government-owned Contractor-operated (GoCo) business model whereby a private-sector organization Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is responsible for managing and operating AECLs sites on its behalf. AECLs objectives under the GoCo model include accelerating Environmental Remediation Management managing the Federal Nuclear Science and Technology Work Plan and building a world-class nuclear laboratory that fulfils government priorities and grows commercial revenues.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Director of Indigenous Relations the Senior Advisor will play a pivotal role in building and sustaining long-term relationships with Indigenous Nations and communities. This role involves coordinating and managing Indigenous engagement and consultation efforts often in collaboration with CNL to strengthen capacity knowledge sharing and Indigenous participation and partnership. The Senior Advisor identifies engagement opportunities co-develops and implements plans and agreements and oversees CNLs Indigenous Relations activities. By working directly with Indigenous Nations and AECLs Indigenous Relations team the advisor supports AECLs reconciliation journey and aligns initiatives with Government of Canada priorities.

What you bring:

  • University Degree OR a combination of post-secondary education and lived experience.
    Post-secondary education experience could include courses or degree in Indigenous Studies Public Affairs Communication Journalism Public Policy Political Science Engineering or Science or related field.
  • Broad Indigenous engagement experience is required and experiences working or living in an Indigenous community is preferred.
  • Experience in community or stakeholder relations communications and/or policy is preferred.
  • Experience working on nuclear issues is preferred.
  • Experience working on large-scale projects and environmental assessments is preferred.

    • The hiring range for this role is between $97900 and $113200 based on compensable factors including but not limited to qualifications and experience.
    • The current salary range for this role is broader than the hiring range. Employees progress through the salary scale based AECLs compensation philosophy and procedures.

What you can expect:

  • This position can be based out of AECLs Ottawa or Chalk River Ontario office locations.
  • This role requires the ability to travel to remote locations including AECL sites and Indigenous communities approximately 1-2 times per month and as needed to facilitate and participate in meetings site tours workshops events and conferences and engage with Indigenous communities.
  • The selected candidate must successfully meet Government of Canada security clearance requirements.

En travaillant directement avec les nations autochtones et lquipe des relations avec les Autochtones dEACL le conseiller soutient le parcours de rconciliation dEACL et harmonise les initiatives aux priorits du gouvernement du Canada.
