Perkins Braille and Talking Book Library circulates more than half a million copies of accessible books newspapers and publications in braille large print and digital audio formats annually to thousands of registered patrons with print disabilities in Massachusetts New England and beyond.
As our Registration Services Specialist you will be part of a team responsible for patron registration and database functions for the Library including new patron registration updates corrections patron service resolution and application digitization and management.
Create and maintain database records for current and new patrons equipment models and accessories
Report patron information to the National Library Services through the Patron Information and Machine Management Systems (PIMMS)
Assist patrons with service/equipment questions and their requests for equipment replacement.
Maintain patron registration database records which reflect patron activity in the Perkins Library Worcester Sub Regional Library Rhode Island Talking Book Library Machine Lending Agency and all out-of-state braille borrowers.
Assist with all aspects of the Librarys patron application digitization/scanning activities including scanning file-saving retrieval source document storage and disposal.
Handle all aspects of U.S. Mail processing of incoming and outgoing items
Answer patron and staff questions concerning Library services application process type of services available etc.; correspond with patrons and/or caregivers to resolve difficult service problems.
Perform tasks related to special projects of the Registration Unit; and participates in staff committee activities as assigned.
Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated keyboard skills and experience with Microsoft Excel Word and Outlook applications.
Ability to learn automated processes and procedures ability to hear phone calls and communicate effectively over the telephone.
Good work organization and attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures; ability to work accurately with names numbers codes and/or symbols.
High School diploma or equivalent
One plus years clerica/customer service experience
One year online or automation inventory control or Microsoft and/or database experience
