Job Description

Pay Grade: Per the Instructional Salary Scale Period of Employment: 11 months

Description Approved/ Revised: 3/2020 FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administrator

Primary Responsibilities: Promotes student success provides preventative services and responds to identified student needs. Implements a comprehensive school intervention program that increases supports for on-time graduation. Addresses student needs to prevent dropouts.

Essential Duties:

  • Supports and participates in positive intervention activities to increase graduation rates increase student attendance and reduce dropout issues.
  • Builds collective responsibility around on-time graduation dropouts attendance and student achievement.
  • Tracks student on-time graduation progression and schedules appointments with students parents teachers and counselors for at-risk students.
  • Meets weekly with at-risk students and provides resources and support for their success.
  • Creates and implements individual support plans for at-risk students.
  • Assists in interpreting school and division programs policies and procedures to students.
  • Develops and maintains a positive communication system with the students community and staff.
  • Assists with review of interim student progress reports and instructional supports for students.
  • Supports and facilitates a smooth transition for students between grade levels.
  • Assists with supervision of students arriving at school and leaving school and provides additional supervision at the discretion of the school Administrator or designee.
  • Oversees on-site registration (Blended Learning Academy Alternative Education and GED/Grants).
  • Participates in Data Dialogues Attendance Task Force Instructional Council and Testing Committee.
  • Performs a variety of administrative activities for the purpose of supporting students and staff.
  • Coordinates the school-wide mentoring program.
  • Manages dropout data tracking and locating current dropouts by involving the community and parents.
  • Determines barriers and best options for at-risk student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with a Secondary Endorsement.
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience in high school classrooms preferred.
  • Experience in leadership roles preferred.
  • Experience in a diverse multicultural teaching and learning environment preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of effectively using and operating various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
