Job Description
THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position you will provide support to a bridge inspection team leader by assisting with various technical duties related to the inspection of bridges and other structures. This includes conducting safety inspections on existing bridges examining structural components such as concrete footings steel beams and timber construction and assessing the condition of bridge features like expansion devices and safety parapets. You will also be responsible for inspecting bridges for damage wear and corrosion as well as measuring bridge members recording deterioration and rating components.
Additionally you will play a role in preparing detailed inspection reports that document the current condition of bridges and identify any deficiencies. This will involve compiling information taking photographs reviewing sketches and summarizing the findings of the inspection. You will also assist in conducting underwater inspections crane inspections and deck surveys as well as maintaining accurate records of inspections using various tools and software systems.
It is important that you have a strong understanding of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) coding requirements and are able to maintain the necessary documentation for all state-owned structures. You will have the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders including Department staff federal and local agencies legislators and the general public to ensure effective project administration. Additionally you will be responsible for maintaining and organizing inspection equipment and adhering to a two-year inspection cycle.

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday - Friday with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying design construction or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience which includes reading and interpreting blueprints plans or schematics; or
- One year of construction inspection experience and an associates degree in civil engineering mechanical engineering geotechnical engineering surveying engineering technology or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Drivers License or equivalent.
