District Activities Director
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in educational leadership or related field required
- Valid Iowa Administrator License including Evaluator Approval
- A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a K-12 education system preferred
- District/Organization level leadership experience preferred
- Trained as a Title IX Coordinator (or willing to obtain)
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

- In collaboration with the building principals supervises high school and middle school athletic directors.
Job Goal(s):
Performs the full range of professional duties required to lead the secondary athletics and activities departments including the performance of complex and/or sensitive activities managing large-scale long-term projects supervising and evaluating employees and performs related duties as required or assigned.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plans and supervises the multifaceted activities to support the secondary athletics and activities in direct collaboration (SUPERVISOR) and the building principals/designee and athletic directors.
- Develops strategies for achieving the goals contained within the Iowa City Community School District Strategic Plan and is accountable for outcomes.
- Creates department policies and procedures to accomplish and short- and long-term goals of the departments being led and supervised.
- Leads projects and allocate resources (physical fiscal and human)
- Contributes expertise to the department and can serve as a collaborative partner for building level leaders.
- Supervises and Evaluates staff within the department and ensures that all members of the department are evaluated in alignment with District practices.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Assist building level leaders in the development and implementation of a continuous district-wide activities and fine arts in-service program by:
- Establish goals and objectives within divisions of activities and the fine arts.
- Collaborate with the building level athletic directors to create and maintain a positive culture in athletics fine arts and activities.
- Plan and chair department meetings and the Activities Council.
- Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations provided by the District State and governing bodies of the various activities and athletics.
- Participate in the hiring of all head coaches and fine arts directors as outlined in Appendix C of the Teacher Negotiated Agreement
- Collaborate with the Human Resources department to determine coaching/director/sponsor allocations for the various sports to encourage participation in extracurricular activities.
- Assist in the scheduling of activities and fine arts assignments.
- Collaborates with the Business Office and CFO in the creation and oversight of district-wide activities and fine arts budgets.
- Establish 3rd party contacts for licensing and purchasing across the District
- Coordinate and publicize local and competitive activities and competitions.
- Assist with supervision of athletic activities including required attendance at all inner-district major competitions
- Meets weekly with building based athletic directors
- Coordinate attendance at building booster club meetings
- Active participation in head coach interviews at the high schools
Oversight of the Facility Rental process including
- The approval of mission partners and feeder programs
- Approval of which outside organizations can access our indoor and outdoor facilities
- Collaboration with the business office to establish competitive rental rates
- Communicated with the COO and Physical Plant related to any custodial needs during a facility rental
