Job Description

Special Education Teacher for the Life Skills ProgramReporting to School Principal and Assistant Director of Student ServicesThe Special Education Teacher for the Life Skills Program serves students with significant disabilities in a sub-separate setting with opportunities for inclusion based on IEP team decisions. This role includes designing and delivering specialized instruction conducting evaluations collaborating with staff and families and supporting transition planning to promote student independence and success.Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design and implement specialized instruction aligned with the MA Curriculum Frameworks and individualized student needs.
  • Provide direct instruction in small groups 1:1 or inclusive settings as outlined in IEPs.
  • Deliver instruction in life skills including self-care cooking hygiene community access and functional academics.
  • Use evidence-based practices and differentiated strategies to meet academic behavioral and social-emotional needs.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments to evaluate learning profiles and determine eligibility.
  • Collect and analyze ongoing data to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide timely data-informed progress reports in accordance with IEP goals and service delivery schedules.
  • Develop IEPs that include measurable annual goals benchmarks/objectives accommodations modifications and service delivery in compliance with IDEA DESE guidelines and district protocols.
  • Serve as the liaison for assigned students ensuring full implementation of IEPs and coordination of services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and adhere to state and federal timelines (IDEA 603 CMR 28.00).
  • Create a safe structured and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and independence.
  • Consult and collaborate with general educators specialists instructional assistants families and outside agencies.
  • Participate in IEP meetings school-based teams and professional learning communities.
  • Stay current with best practices and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Complete MCAS-ALT administration as appropriate.
  • Experience working with students with Autism Intellectual Disabilities complex medical and behavioral needs
