Job Description

Ohio Wesleyan University Network Technician

Ohio Wesleyan University () is a selective private undergraduate liberal arts residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus. Information Services at Ohio Wesleyan University has an opening for a Network Technician. This is a 12-month full time position with benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide campus-wide support and technical assistance for computer printer and other problems focusing on network-related tasks. Develops an understanding of our wired and wireless networks cable runs access points switches and firewall configurations and troubleshooting. Works as part of the help desk as needed. Supervised directly by the Chief Information Officer and works with all IS staff and student employees as well as all faculty and staff contacts. Contributes to special projects undertaken by Information Services (IS). Escalates extended problems through proper channels keeping management informed on as directed.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provides technical support for computer systems deployed across campus.
  • Responds to problems reported to IS as delegated by supervisor or as indicated by clients.
  • Troubleshoots desktop issues related to network connectivity and performance.
  • Hardware/Software support of network printers.
  • Assists with connectivity of bring your own devices in our residence halls.
  • Tests and troubleshoots bandwidth and wireless performance issues.
  • Installs wireless access points UPS batteries etc. as needed.
  • Monitors firewall wireless controllers and other critical system logs makes recommendations.
  • and implements security and performance measures.

Qualifications:

Associate Degree in CS MIS CST or closely related technology field preferred. Also the experience listed below is preferred.

  • 1 year of hardware support.
  • 1 year of software support.
  • 1 year of network troubleshooting.
