The Supervisor Indirect Tax will be responsible for US sales & use property taxes and other filings as required for the company and ensures compliance with all state and local tax laws. The candidate must possess exceptional analytical skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex tax matters to stakeholders. This leader will effectively exhibit JD North America core values of Customer People Winning Community and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties:
Manage the US Indirect Tax Compliance function with outsourced partners to ensure accurate and timely compliance with sales & use gross receipts B&O and property tax returns.
Review monthly tax reconciliations journal entries perform analysis and make recommendations to senior management.
Maintain a comprehensive filing calendar supporting documentation and workpapers.
Lead and coordinate sales & use tax audits and notices.
Oversee maintenance of tax engine to ensure correct rates and rules.
Ensure all state and local registrations are completed
Maintain tax codes in the merchandise hierarchy
Work with internal and external auditors to produce documentation supporting the SOX process.
Embrace identify and drive indirect tax process improvements automation and workflows.
Maintain knowledge in current tax laws and accounting rules assess their impact on the organization and communicate those changes timely.
Assist with sales tax function and review for other entities across the JD North America group.
Perform tax research and prepare research memorandums documenting analysis and conclusions.
Complete taxability research and maintain the tax matrix on purchases and sales.
Collaborate with a variety of teams including AP Accounting Treasury Procurement Legal Construction Merchandising and IT to gather data and resolve tax matters.
Ad Hoc Projects and additional duties as required.
This role is part of a high-performing tax team that plays a crucial role in ensuring the organizations compliance with complex US indirect tax regulations.
Required Education and/or Experience-
Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field from a 4-year college or university or equivalent years of related work experience required.
4-6 years of experience in sales tax preferably in a leadership capacity or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal written verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines remain organized and prioritize workload.
Strong understanding of accounting systems and interaction with indirect tax process.
Can easily adapt to new technology.
Experience with Vertex preferred.
Experience with Alteryx and/or big query language like SQL a plus.
